Ball Picking Machine - An Interactive Probability Game
A machine is filled with balls of different colors, and is ready to test your knowledge of probability!
First, you will be challenged to answer questions on the probability of a ball of a particular color being chosen by the machine. You will need to pick from five possible answers: impossible, unlikely, equally likely, likely and certain.
Then, you can pull the lever on the machine for it to choose a ball, and the activity keeps track of how many balls of each color are chosen.
This part of the activity is more of a demonstration, to show you the probability that a ball of a particular color is picked based upon how many of each color of ball is available. This makes it a useful visual demonstration of probability for kids in third and fourth grade.
Keep track of the number of each color of ball chosen by the machine – and see if that matches what you expected!
